The Lengths I am Willing to go
The lengths I would be willing to go through in order to do right by every single student is drastic and lengthy just like every teacher should. I think it is important to fight for what you believe in, and students should be a priority we as teachers fight for. For example, in this week's module we learn about all the prejudice and discrimination students face in school. In Texas Governor Greg Abbott passed a law to make it legal for teachers to essentially ban transgender students from certain spaces and activities. This kind of prejudice is something that teachers should see and chose not to participate in. While this would be considered illegal it is not something that should be rightfully followed because of the hurt it produces. Decades ago discrimination and prejudice against students was vary vast as we all know, especially when it came to segregating black people from white people in shared public spaces like schools. This is still happening in a different form, and it is truly frightening to see. With that being said as a teacher, I will always put my students first, and provide the safest environment for them. Without feeling safe students are left to fend for themselves and often this promotes a lack of understanding or focus on the class because they can't fully be comfortable. As a result, teachers will see less engagement in students and while this is a reason to fight for your students, harmful laws like mentioned above should make teachers strive to do better.
