Segregation in Schooling

  This week's module really opened my eyes to the segregation that is still very much happening in today's school system. This is partially to blame due to how school systems are located and the lack of resources particular schools have. I became more aware of the fact that racism and segregation is very much prominent and present in our society and especially in our schooling. We see this due to the fact that schools with a heavy population of children in poverty or low-income families are not given the proper resources they need to thrive and grow. While these schools receive less than what they need to thrive, other schools with wealthy students in "good" areas of town are given more than enough resources they need to learn and grow. With that being said, it should be a main goal for school administration to put an end to this and supply each and every school with what they need to thrive. The Role Money Plays in Schooling

 Money has many roles in the school system. Examples of this can be how certain students are treated based on their social class, funding for Teachers, and the ability for students and teachers to have all of the resources they need. To start we will go more into detail on how students of different social classes receive different help and support from school staff. Students of lower class families typically are provided more resources then just what happens in the class room, some may receive discounted or free lunches and breakfast, or the books they need may be given to them rather than have to be payed for, and help can even go as far as giving students the resources they need over the weekends. This is very important as not every student is given a solid home life to feel comfortable enough at school to actually learn and grow.
